Clore Automotive JNC660 1700 Peak amp 12V Jump Starter

Rating: ★★★★★

The Clore Automotive JNC660 is by far our top rated and best selling jump starter. There is truly a lot that goes into making sure we get a review right and this one I feel was hit out of the ballpark. My intent when I write reviews is to give you all the facts and let you decide on if it’s the right jump starter for you and your family. Different strokes for different folks as they say, but when it comes down to what portable jump starters are out on the market today exceeding expectations…I feel it’s the JNC660.

When selecting a portable battery jump starter there are key features to look at in order to asses if it’s the right jump stater for you. They are as follows:

  • The peak AMPS
  • The length and thickness/gauge of the cables
  • The quality of clamps
  • Durability/Versatility
  • The quality of battery
  • Warranty

AMPS…Are they really that important?

To answer that question…Yes they are!  Amps is the amount of power or electrical current that’s administered to your battery while trying to jump start it. The more amps you have available the more likely you will be able to successfully jump start your vehicle no matter how dead the battery may be. Many of the lower end jump starters may only have 300 peak amps, but the JNC660 is on top of the food chain when it comes down to peak amps. It can deliver 1700 peak amps in any condition and/or vehicle type. Vehicle size does matter to when deciding on what type of jump starter to buy. A larger vehicle will require more power and ultimately a larger battery.  A larger battery will require more amps in order to get it jump started.

Thickness and Length Does Matter!

Have you ever tried to jump start a vehicle with another vehicle and failed? It was probably because of the quality of jumper cables being used. In order for you to jump start a dead battery you need to have enough amps flowing through the cables. What’s good with all that power if you don’t have a way of transferring it efficiently and effectively to the battery. Think of it as sucking juice though a straw…larger the straw the less restricting the flow of juice will be thus being able to get more juice. Same concept applies for amps traveling down cables. This is where the thickness of the cables are critical when selecting a portable jump starter.

The length is important to ensure you can reach your vehicles battery compartment. Their are a variety of vehicles with a variety of battery locations. With longer cables you will be able to access a batteries location easier, so longer the cable the better off you are.

The Clore Automotive JNC660 has heavy duty cables. These heavy duty cables are made of 4 gauge cable and measures 46 inches in length which is longer than most other jump starters. These higher quality cables will ensure that you can deliver that 1700 peak amps on demand.

Clamp Quality…

You would not think that the clamps on a jump starter would be all that important, but think again. Clamps are the main points of contact with your battery. The JNC660 has heavy duty clamps that will lock on and not let go until you decide. Another benefit of having these heavy duty clamps is that they will penetrate through corrosion making sure you have solid contact with the battery terminal. If corrosion is preventing the amps from being delivered your jump starter will be ineffective. Having heavy duty clamps like the ones on the JNC660 will enable you to clamp through the corrosion for a good solid connection.

Durability/Versatility

When it comes to versatility the Clore JNC660 is one of a kind. Actually, this why it’s our best selling and top rated jump starter. The JNC660 can be used on several types of batteries including marine, industrial, and automotive. No matter how big the battery or job this portable jump starter will handle it.

It also comes with more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at. The Clore JNC660 has an on board battery gauge to properly monitor your battery charge so you can accurately assess you’re on board battery. It also has the charging unit built into the shell so you will not have to worry about losing the charger. Another added feature is the JNC660 contains a 12 volt DC power plug with automatic circuit protection to ensure your don’t over load any of your 12 volt electronics.

And as for durability… it has an industrial strength outer shell specially designed for  easy carrying, but will withstand even the toughest of  jobs and protects your investment. But, don’t get scared by the term industrial. This jump starter unit only weighs 18 pounds. So although it’s big and tough it is very portable.

It’s All About The Battery!

If your new to jump starters than you may not know that jump starters actually have a battery inside them. The quality of battery is important to the life of your jump starter. The JNC660 contains a high performance replaceable Clore Proformer battery so you know that the main component of the jump starter is of high quality and can be replaced If needed. Not many jump starters have this feature of a replaceable battery.

This portable battery jump starter comes with a one year warranty, but Clore Automotive takes customer service to another level with a repair/refurbish replacement coupon. This coupon is good even after the 1 year warranty. It gives the owner a onetime repair/replacement option for a $75 fixed fee. This is a no questions asked coupon. There has been some complaints around the fact that the jump starter will lose it’s charge after an extended period of time.
